Dr. Justin Cheng was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai’i, shaped by the people, values, and sense of community that make the islands unlike anywhere else in the world. From an early age, he learned that excellence is not about recognition. It is about showing up with humility, doing the work the right way, and genuinely taking care of others.
That mindset carried him to the University of Hawai’i, where he earned his bachelor’s degree while receiving numerous scholarships and awards, before continuing on to medical school at the University of Hawai’i John A. Burns School of Medicine. There, his dedication to precision and excellence translated into exceptional academic achievement, graduating amongst the top of his medical school class and scoring in the top 1% nationally on the medical licensing exams.
From Hawaiʻi, Dr. Cheng pursued one of the most competitive training pathways in the country: plastic surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). UCSF is world-renowned for clinical excellence and is consistently ranked among the top 5 in the world for clinical medicine. The standard is uncompromising, the selection is highly competitive, and the training is designed for surgeons who want to operate at the highest level. At UCSF, Dr. Cheng refined the fundamentals that define elite surgical care: disciplined decision-making, meticulous technique, and a commitment to outcomes that stand the test of time.
After residency, Dr. Cheng chose to deepen his focus where artistry and surgical precision truly converge by devoting himself to aesthetic plastic surgery. He completed a prestigious fellowship dedicated exclusively to cosmetic and aesthetic surgery in San Francisco under the direct tutelage of internationally acclaimed plastic surgeons at Marten Clinic of Plastic Surgery; Sieber Plastic Surgery; and Plastic Surgery Associates. This fellowship environment demanded more than technical proficiency. It cultivated judgment, taste, and the ability to tailor each plan to the individual patient.
It was in this exclusive fellowship setting working alongside luminaries in the field like Dr. Timothy Marten and Dr. Dino Elyassnia that Dr. Cheng’s passion for facial rejuvenation and rhinoplasty took shape. Immersed in high-level aesthetic facial plastic surgery every day, he cultivated a deep understanding for proportion, contour, and the restraint required to achieve elegant, natural-looking results. Today, his practice reflects this foundation, with specialized expertise in advanced facial rejuvenation and deep plane neck lift surgery. He is also among a small, highly select group of surgeons with formal, dedicated training in closed preservation rhinoplasty, a cutting-edge technique in modern rhinoplasty that allows for more natural, predictable results.
Over the course of his time in San Francisco, Dr. Cheng has performed over 3,000+ procedures, cultivating the core principles that underpin outstanding surgical care.
